Colonial Group is seeking a Surgical Technician to assist in the operating room by preparing instruments and supplies, passing instruments during procedures, and maintaining sterile conditions. The role includes turnover support and potential administrative tasks within the department.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, BLS, and the ability to work under pressure in emergent situations, with preference for formal surgical technology training or OR experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification required; where applicable, must be registered with State Regulatory Agency.
• Manual dexterity and ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations.
• Ability to be conscientious, organized, and respond quickly to surgeon and patient needs.
• Preferred: Graduation from a certified school of surgical technology or 2 years of operating room experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies and ensuring good working order.
• Anticipates surgeon's needs, passes instruments, retracts tissue and operates equipment during surgery.
• Demonstrates aseptic technique and universal precautions; disposes of sharps and trash; counts sharps, instruments and sponges; prepares instruments for cleaning.
• Ensures surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.
• Assists with OR turnover between cases; stocks and replenishes supplies and cleans operating rooms.
• May provide business support to the department including assigned administrative tasks.
