Job summary

University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) in Chicago, IL is seeking an OR Technician to support surgical asepsis, instrument preparation and presentation during cases. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Physician to ensure sterility and efficient instrument handling.

Responsibilities include assisting with instrument counts, preparing the sterile field, stocking supplies, and aiding with pre- and post-case setup.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology from an approved Illinois program or NBSTSA certification.
• Current CPR certification.
• Prior operating room experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follows established Operating Room policies and procedures.
• Assists in care, maintenance, distribution and control of sterile and unsterile equipment and supplies.
• Act as Scrub Attendant: arrange sterile articles and pass instruments while maintaining sterility.
• Complete sponge, needle and instrument counts with RN; report discrepancies.
• Prepare medications on the sterile field under RN/MD direction; double-check doses.
• Assist with infusions and OR setup prior to surgery; procure equipment and supplies.
• Check equipment for proper function before/during/after cases; stock OR supplies daily.
• Initiate cleaning of OR equipment and ensure proper sterile covers.
• Assist with instrument cleaning and packing after cases.
• Perform other duties as assigned or in special projects.
