Job summary

University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) in Chicago, IL seeks a Surgical Technologist for the Hospital Operating Room (Days). The role supports asepsis, instrument prep, and OR case presentation under RN/physician supervision. Schedule is 7:00–3:30pm, with full-time commitment and benefits eligibility.

Minimum qualifications include an associate degree or NBSTSA certification and CPR. Prior OR experience and Surgical Technologist certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Surgical Technology from an approved Illinois program.
• Current NBSTSA certification as a Surgical Technologist.
• Current CPR certification.

Responsibilities

• Follows established Operating Room policies and procedures.
• Assists in care, maintenance, distribution and control of equipment and supplies.
• Assist as Scrub Attendant: arrange sterile articles, handle instruments, and maintain sterility of instrument tables.
• Complete sponge, needle and instrument counts with RN before, during and after surgery; report discrepancies.
• Prepare medications (non-narcotics) on the sterile field under RN/MD supervision.
• Assist with infusions and OR prep for procedures.
• Check equipment function before and after cases.
• Stock OR supplies daily (e.g. sutures).
• Initiate cleaning of OR equipment daily and ensure protective covers.
• Assist with instrument cleanup during and after shifts; clean/pack instruments for after-hours.
