Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to assist in invasive procedures under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse. You will help ensure a safe operating room, verify equipment function, maintain sterile technique, and support physicians with sterile tools and supplies.

You will apply anatomy knowledge and experience with aseptic technique to maximize patient safety and outcomes, while coordinating with the surgical team and adhering to policies and regulatory

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology program or Military Training Equivalent (68D - Operating Room Specialist).
• Online Surgical Tech program credits will not be accepted.

Responsibilities

• Work under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to support safe and effective surgical procedures.
• Ensure operating room readiness, including equipment functionality and sterile environment.
• Apply sterile and aseptic techniques to support surgical procedures.
• Assist physicians during invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
• Patient Care: Assists with patient care while complying with Novant Health policies and procedures and regulatory standards.
• Communication: Practices effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Physical Tasks: Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves. Sets up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications or solutions needed for procedures. Performs counts per policy. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants, assists with draping the sterile field, passes instruments during procedures, and maintains the highest standard of sterile technique. Prepares sterile dressings, cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization, assists with room cleaning, and prepares the room for the next patient.
