Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join our operating room team. You will prepare materials, maintain a sterile field, and assist surgeons by passing instruments and providing a safe, efficient environment.

You will set up the room for each case, operate equipment, transport supplies and patients, and act as a Second Assistant as needed while upholding aseptic technique. Education: completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program; Licensure/Certification: Basic Life

Qualifications

• Knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques used in preparing materials, supplies and equipment for various procedures.
• Knowledge of operating room equipment and its use across OR procedures.
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer proficiency for charting and supply management.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a sterile, safe and efficient operating area for patient care and assists with gowning, gloving and passing instruments.
• Performs a variety of procedures and maintains knowledge of procedures.
• Sets up the OR for each case, moves and operates equipment, and ensures sterility and readiness post-procedure.
• Functions as a Second Assistant as necessary.
• Notifies staff of equipment or supply problems and coordinates transport of patients and equipment.
• Maintains specialty carts/items, checks equipment condition and sends damaged items for repair.
• Performs patient positioning and lifting with proper technique.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-appropriate patient care and development to meet department policies.
