Job summary

SSM Health in Shawnee, OK is seeking a Surgical Technician to provide patient care in the Operating Room under the direction of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include preparing equipment and supplies, handling instruments, and communicating with the RN about patient status.

The role requires a high school diploma or nursing equivalency, OR or surgical tech program experience, and BLS certification. Shift is variable with a 40-hour work week in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; nursing education/licensing path acceptable.
• Experience in operating room or completion of an approved surgical tech program or nursing education equivalency.

Responsibilities

• Practices technical components of patient care under RN supervision.
• Collaborates with RN and healthcare team to implement a care plan.
• Prepares equipment, supplies, and resources for cases; re-evaluates as needed.
• Communicates patient information to the RN promptly and accurately.
• Operates surgical equipment and instruments with aseptic technique.
• Follows lab policies for handling and labeling specimens.
• Keeps documentation of quality controls; maintains organized workspace.
• Demonstrates problem solving and teamwork; supports fellow staff.
• Manages time efficiently and prioritizes tasks.
