Job summary

HCA Healthcare's Obstetric Surgical Technologist role places you in a highly collaborative obstetric team. You’ll prepare the surgical suite, assist with patient positioning and draping, and hand instruments to the team during procedures, helping to deliver newborns safely with compassionate care.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • Graduate of a surgical technologist program or substitution with 1 year hospital experience for hires prior to 9/1/2009.
  • Certification options include CST or TS-C as applicable.

  • Preparing the surgical suite and organizing instruments, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assisting with patient positioning, prepping, and draping while maintaining comfort, privacy, and safety.
  • Providing instruments, equipment, and hands-on support to the surgical team during obstetric procedures.
  • Maintaining a sterile field, performing counts, and ensuring instruments and equipment function properly.
  • Working closely with the surgical team to deliver patient-centered care and a seamless surgical experience.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing the surgical suite and organizing instruments, equipment, and supplies to support safe, efficient procedures
  • Assisting with patient positioning, prepping, and draping while maintaining comfort, privacy, and safety
  • Providing instruments, equipment, and hands‑on support to the surgical team during obstetric procedures
  • Maintaining a sterile field, performing counts, and ensuring instruments and equipment function properly
  • Working closely with the surgical team to deliver patient‑centered care and a seamless surgical experience
What qualifications you will need:

Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:

1. Education:

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a surgical technologist program OR hires prior to 9/1/2009 may substitute with 1-year experience in a hospital setting as a surgical technologist.

2. Experience: None required (unless used in lieu of education as stated above).

3. Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).

Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:

A. NON-CERTIFIED: No license, certificate or registrations required for the Sterile Processing Department All other departments no license, certificate or registration required if they meet the below provision: Per Texas HB 643, surgical technologists entering practice after 09/01/2009 must have and maintain a surgical technologist certification. Individuals that performed in a surgical technologist position prior to 09/01/2009 are not required to obtain a surgical technologist certification.

B. CERTIFIED: Must have and maintain ONE of the following:

  • CST – Certified Surgical Technologist through the National Board for Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) (formally the Liaison Council for Certification for the Surgical Technologist) OR
  • TS-C- Tech in Surgery, Certified through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
