The role supports the surgical team by preparing the OR, passing instruments, and maintaining sterile technique under RN supervision, contributing to patient safety and procedure efficiency.

Qualifications

• Complete one of the following by hire date: Military Surgical Assistant; OR LPN Surgical Assistant; OR Surgical Technologist training.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers or ability to obtain by hire date.

Responsibilities

• Supplying appropriate instruments, suture, and specialty items.
• Maintaining aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
• Ensuring accurate identification and handling of specimens.
• Counting all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Assuring availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
• Modifying clinical interventions based on population served.
• Nurturing a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
• Anticipating the surgeon’s needs.
• Following appropriate action in emergency situations.
