Job summary

Boys Town National Research Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, seeks a Surgical Technician to perform scrub duties in the operating room under RN supervision, ensuring instrument and supply readiness for each procedure.

You will maintain Joint Commission readiness, work with circulating nurses and surgeons, and cross-train across specialties while upholding confidentiality and patient care standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate from an accredited surgical/operating room technician program, and/or minimum of two years experience in an operating room.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and maintenance required; CPR (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs scrub and related duties in the operating room under the supervision of the RN Circulating Nurse.
• Identifies and gathers supplies, equipment, and instruments for each procedure with the circulating nurse.
• Ensures proper handling of contaminated instruments and cleans the room after cases.
• Performs housekeeping duties as needed.
• Assists the surgeon by providing instruments and materials in a timely manner.
• Follows directions from MD or RN, including in emergencies.
• Supports Joint Commission readiness and participates in performance improvement activities.
• Cross-trained to surgical specialty areas and collaborates with supply chain and leadership.
• Provides patient care and education according to the population served.
