Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a Surgical Technologist II to assist with surgical procedures under the direction of Staff Nurses. Prepares, operates and maintains routine and complex equipment, instruments, supplies and implants.

The role includes mentoring students and new staff, participating in governance/EBP workgroups, and ensuring aseptic technique. Two years of experience and certification are required; on-campus, part-time, night shifts with shift differentials.

Qualifications

• Satisfactory completion of a vocational or military course in surgical technology.
• Certification as Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA and NCCT).
• Two years of Surgical Technologist experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepares surgical area for patient care and anticipates the needs of the surgical team.
• Serves as primary preceptor for Surgical Technology students and new staff.
• Applies knowledge related to emergency situations and surgical procedures in the operating room.
• Maintains sterile technique and collaborates with surgeons to ensure safety and efficiency.
