Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City seeks a Surgical Technologist II to prepare the surgical area, anticipate team needs, and maintain aseptic technique. You will scrub procedures, assist with implants, and organize instrument trays in a fast-paced operating room.

The role supports inpatient and outpatient surgeries at John Colloton Pavilion, with 80–100% effort and rotating shifts. Strong OR experience and NBSTSA/NCCT certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• Satisfactory completion of a vocational or military course in surgical technology, or certification as a surgical technologist (NBSTSA and NCCT).
• Two years’ experience as a Surgical Technologist.
• Experience in operating room patient care and ability to scrub procedures.

Responsibilities

• Prepares surgical area for patient care and anticipates surgical team needs.
• Serves as primary preceptor for Surgical Technology students and interns.
• Maintains sterile field and reports any breaks in aseptic technique.
• Handles equipment, instruments, supplies and implants per policies.
• Organizes instrument trays and specialty carts; assists with procedure planning.
