Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care seeks a Surgical Technologist II for the Labor & Delivery Unit, 100% nights. You will assist with surgical procedures under the direction of Staff Nurses and prepare, operate, and maintain equipment, supplies, and implants.

Qualifications

• Satisfactory completion of a vocational or military course in surgical technology, or certification as a Surgical Technologist (NBSTSA and NCCT).
• Two years of Surgical Technologist experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepares surgical area for patient care and anticipates the needs of the surgical team.
• Serves as primary preceptor for Surgical Technology students, Summer Nursing Interns, or new staff.
• Applies knowledge related to emergency situations and surgical procedures in the operating room.
• Maintains sterile technique and asepsis; communicates breaks in aseptic technique.
• Organizes and reviews instrument trays, supplies, and implants for procedures.
• Mentors new staff and student technologists in scrubbing duties and perioperative care.
