Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist 2 to support OR teams, under RN supervision. You will scrub in, prepare instruments, and ensure equipment is ready and sterile for surgical procedures.

Responsibilities include instrument setup, counts, passing supplies to surgeons, and assisting with patient positioning. A $10,000 sign-on bonus may apply based on eligibility, with comprehensive benefits and required CST/BLS credentials.

Qualifications

• Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program.
• Current CST certification by NBSTSA or NCCT preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Experience in a health care facility or military/Public Health Service ST training is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Discuss any special needs with the surgeon before surgery and scrub into surgery in time to prepare instruments.
• Prepare operative site and clip patient as needed.
• Maintain organized instrument table and ensure instrument counts are accurate.
• Identify damaged or incomplete trays and rectify discrepancies.
• Set up OR according to procedure schedules and arrange sterile supplies.
• Ensure proper functioning of surgical instruments and equipment during procedures.
• Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, instruments, and other items.
• Anticipate needs of surgeon and team; pass sterile supplies and assist as required.
• Assist with draping and positioning the patient.
• Receive and disposition surgical specimens following protocol.
• Assist with placement of dressings post-surgery.
• Disassemble and decontaminate instruments; dispose of waste properly.
• Prepare soiled instrumentation for transport to decontamination area.
• Maintain infection control and regulatory compliance throughout the OR.
