Summary: Full Time, 11a-9p, (4/10 hour shifts) Mon-Fri, Rotating Day Off (Min Call Required)

A Surgical Technologist II under the direction of the surgeon and RN, assists in the preparation, set-up, and completion of the surgical procedure. They maintain strict adherence to the principles of sterile technique and continually monitor the sterile field to ensure its integrity. The Surgical Tech II provides safe and effective care for the patients in surgery and commonly participates in procedures for patients from newborn to adult with conditions requiring surgical intervention. The Surgical Tech II serves as a resource for other staff, assists with unit problem-solving, and participates in evidence-based practice.

Required Education: High school diploma or GED or equivalent

Recommended Education: Associate's Degree in a related field of study

Required Work Experience: High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of relevant experience, or 4 years of experience in lieu of a diploma/GED

• Competently prepares the operating room ensuring the availability of appropriate instrumentation, supplies, and equipment for assigned cases in all services.
• Performs surgical counts with RN prior to the procedure.
• Ensures the sterile field has been set-up prior to patient transfer.
• Anticipates instrumentation needs to aid in case turnover.
• Uses sterile techniques to gown, glove, pass instruments, and drape while maintaining sterile field.
• Maintains and counts sponges, blades, needles, and instruments.
• Communicates with team regarding preferences, implants, medications, and specimens.
• Assists with final counts and sterile field breakdown post-procedure.
• Prepares instruments for sterilization and inspects for damage.
• Assists with room cleaning and turnover, restocking supplies.
• Communicates instrument needs for upcoming cases.
• Promotes safety and reports concerns.
• Participates in quality improvement activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
