Job summary

North Carolina Specialty Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a Surgical Technologist for full-time work in the Surgical Services department. The role involves assisting in surgical operations under supervision of surgeons, RNs, and OR staff in a high-quality, patient-centered environment.

The position requires completion of an accredited surgical technology program and BLS certification, with 1–3 years of OR experience preferred. Competitive benefits and a $7,500 sign-on bonus are offered.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited school of surgical technology or the equivalent in clinical surgery training/experience.
• 1-3 years previous surgery experience in at least two specialty areas preferred.
• BLS certification through an accredited program; Certified Surgical Technician preferred.
• Effective communication skills; both orally and written.
• Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
• Strong critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs scrub activities based on aseptic technique, infection control, universal precautions guidelines, environmental control, and life safety guidelines.
• Prepares and knows the specific uses of equipment, instrumentation and supplies used for surgical procedures.
• Locates and operates equipment; initiates service requests when malfunctions occur.
• Prepares operating room utilizing preference cards to set up instruments and equipment.
• Independently prepares sterile field for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients for intra-operative experience.
• Maintains updated preference cards and uses clinical information systems efficiently.
• Demonstrates safe and constructive patient care throughout the procedure.
