Job summary

BJC HealthCare in Creve Coeur, Missouri, is looking for candidates to perform surgical duties for operating room procedures under the supervision of a registered nurse. You will be responsible for preparing the operating room, managing supplies, and maintaining cleanliness.

The ideal candidate should have at least a high school diploma or GED, and less than 2 years of experience or military equivalent. Certification as a Surgical Technician is preferred.

• No supervisory experience required.
• Certification as a Surgical Technician is a must.

Responsibilities

With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The Perioperative Services staff at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital provide excellent surgical care by partnering with physicians and healthcare professionals.

Role Purpose

Performs surgical duties for operating room procedures under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews preference cards to determine surgeon needs, obtains the necessary supplies and equipment for the procedure, ensures cleanliness of room, and assists with opening sterile supplies.
• Performs surgical scrub duties, and assists with the collection, identification, and disposition of cultures and specimens.
• Assists in turning over of room, and ensures supplies, instruments, and equipment are returned to proper location.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Experience

• Less than 2 years or military equivalent experience
