Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is a large Missouri hospital recognized for excellence in nursing. Perioperative Services staff support world-class surgeons and anesthesiologists in fast-paced OR settings, with opportunities for professional growth and Magnet Hospital standards.

Positions involve surgical duties under RN supervision, room preparation, and handling cultures and specimens, with a 3/12 hour shift pattern and recurring call shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Surgical Technician licensure/certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for procedures, gathers supplies, and ensures room cleanliness.
• Performs surgical scrub duties and handles cultures and specimens.
• Assists in turning over the room and returns instruments and equipment to proper locations.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Performs surgical duties for operating room procedures under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews preference cards to determine surgeon needs, obtains the necessary supplies and equipment for the procedure, ensures cleanliness of room, and assists with opening sterile supplies.
• Performs surgical scrub duties, and assists with the collection, identification, and disposition of cultures and specimens.
• Assists in turning over of room, and ensures supplies, instruments, and equipment are returned to proper location.
