Job summary

The University of Rochester seeks a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team in Rochester, NY, handling instruments and supplies for procedures. This role emphasizes sterile technique, patient advocacy, and preceptor duties for staff and students in an outpatient surgical center setting.

Under RN direction, you will prepare intraoperative solutions, assist with room turnover, and monitor instrument function while maintaining safety and compliance with hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited (CAAHEP) ST program, or completion of an American Military ST program, or one year ST experience within 2011–2015.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Certification by NCCT or NBSTSA required if hired after 2015, with exemption for 2011–2015 ST experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgical team by anticipating instrument/equipment needs during procedures.
• Select instruments, equipment, and supplies per surgeon's cards and patient needs.
• Maintain aseptic technique and sterile integrity throughout the procedure.
• Prepare intraoperative pharmacological solutions under RN direction.
• Assist with patient prep for sedation and local procedures.
• Ensure instruments/equipment are tested and functional; identify and tag defective parts.
