Job summary

Saint Joseph Health System in Mishawaka, IN, seeks a Full-time Surgical Assistant for day shift. The role supports preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative activities under surgeon supervision, with emphasis on patient safety and asepsis.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited surgical assisting program.
• CSFA, CSA, or SA-C certification required.
• 2 years in operating room as a surgical technologist or current certification.
• Experience independently harvesting leg veins preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively demonstrates the organization's mission and core values in all actions.
• Knows and adheres to laws and regulations on patient health, safety and medical information.
• Preoperative: assist with safe patient positioning and related prep per surgeon's preference.
• Intraoperative: assist with incision, exposure, hemostasis and dressing according to procedure.
• Postoperative: apply dressings and assist in recovery as directed by the surgeon.
• Specialty procedures: perform under supervision tasks including vein harvesting where trained.
• Evaluates patient response to care and outcome achievement.
• Applies asepsis, wound healing knowledge and safety practices in procedures.
• Performs other duties as delegated by surgeon or facility.
