Job summary

Shriners Children's in Hawaii is seeking a Surgical Technician to assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures and help prepare surgical services to ensure the suite is properly set up.

The role requires orthopedic surgery awareness, a current Surgical Technologist certification and BLS certification from the American Heart Association; six months in ortho are preferred. The team emphasizes patient-centered, high-quality care in a pediatric setting.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Current Surgical Technologist certification required.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) recognized by American Heart Association required.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a sterile field, provide equipment and supplies, counts of sponge, sharps and instruments, visualize operative site.
  • Pull cases using preference sheets and OR equipment lists; review lists, make changes; ensure equipment ready before case.
  • Verify efficacy of equipment, operate, maintain and record instrumentation efficacy.
  • Document equipment operations, sterilization and usage with accurate records.
  • Assemble, operate and disassemble OR equipment; attend in-service on new equipment.
  • Attend in-service on new equipment; complete competency evaluation.
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of sterile technique; understand anatomy and procedures relevant to our operations.

Job Description

The Surgical Technician will have the opportunity to assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures, as well as assist in preparation of surgical services to ensure suite setup is appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Competency to create and maintain a sterile field, providing equipment and supplies, performing sponge, sharps and instruments counts. Providing visualization of operative site

  • Independently pulls cases utilizing preference sheets and OR special equipment lists. Updates, reviews lists making changes as necessary. Reviews cases, and equipment prior to start of case. Is scrubbed in and has equipment prior to patient arriving into the OR suite

  • Verifying efficacy of equipment, operating, maintaining and verifying and recording efficacy of equipment

  • Determines and documents efficacy of equipment. Records reflect accurate description of operations, sterilization, and use of equipment

  • Familiar with proper assembly, operation, and disassembly of all OR equipment and attends in-service on new equipment

  • Attends in-service on new equipment, completes competency evaluation successful in operation and maintaining equipment used within the department

  • In-depth knowledge of principles of sterile technique; General knowledge of anatomy, surgical procedures with emphasis on our specific procedures.

Required Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of Orthopedic Surgery

  • Current Surgical Technologist certification required

  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) recognized by American Heart Association required

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum six (6) months experience in an orthopedic surgical area preferred.

The pay range for this position is $26.58 - $39.86. Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
