Job summary

Shriner's Children's is seeking a Surgical Technician to assist during orthopedic procedures and prep the surgical suite. You will scrub in, maintain a sterile field, and support surgeons with counts and equipment needs.

Required qualifications include Surgical Technologist certification and BLS; six months in orthopedic surgery is preferred. The role pays hourly, with a range reflecting experience and department equity.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of Orthopedic Surgery.
• Current Surgical Technologist certification is required.
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) recognized by American Heart Association is required.
• Minimum six (6) months experience in orthopedic surgical area preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a sterile field, providing equipment and supplies, perform sponge, sharps and instruments counts.
• Verifying efficacy of equipment and recording usage.
• Pull cases using preference sheets and OR lists; review lists and update as needed.
• Explain and ensure proper assembly, operation, and disassembly of OR equipment; attend in-service on new equipment.
• Attend competency evaluations and ensure equipment is maintained within the department.

Please click here to learn more about our locations.Job DescriptionThe Surgical Technician will have the opportunity to assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures, as well as assist in preparation of surgical services to ensure suite setup is appropriate.Key Responsibilities:Competency to create and maintain a sterile field, providing equipment and supplies, performing sponge, sharps and instruments counts. Providing visualization of operative siteIndependently pulls cases utilizing preference sheets and OR special equipment lists. Updates, reviews lists making changes as necessary. Reviews cases, and equipment prior to start of case. Is scrubbed in and has equipment prior to patient arriving into the OR suiteVerifying efficacy of equipment, operating, maintaining and verifying and recording efficacy of equipmentDetermines and documents efficacy of equipment. Records reflect accurate description of operations, sterilization, and use of equipmentFamiliar with proper assembly, operation, and disassembly of all OR equipment and attends in-service on new equipmentAttends in-service on new equipment, completes competency evaluation successful in operation and maintaining equipment used within the departmentIn-depth knowledge of principles of sterile technique; General knowledge of anatomy, surgical procedures with emphasis on our specific procedures.Required Qualifications:Basic knowledge of Orthopedic SurgeryCurrent Surgical Technologist certification requiredBasic Life Support Certification (BLS) recognized by American Heart Association requiredPreferred Qualifications:Minimum six (6) months experience in an orthopedic surgical area preferred.The pay range for this position is $32.55 - $48.83/hour.Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
