Job summary

Shriners Children’s in Hawaii is seeking a Surgical Technician to assist surgeons during operative procedures and prepare the surgical suite for cases. This role requires orthopedic knowledge, a current Surgical Technologist certification, and BLS certification.

The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced OR environment ensuring sterile technique and equipment readiness. Responsibilities include case pulls, equipment verification, and participation in in-service trainings to maintain

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain a sterile field; provide equipment and supplies.
• Pull cases using preference sheets and OR lists; review equipment before case start.
• Verify equipment efficacy during use and record results.
• Document equipment usage, sterilization, and case descriptions.
• Assemble, operate, and disassemble OR equipment; attend equipment in-services.
• Attend in-service on new equipment; complete competency evaluations.
• Maintain sterile technique and general knowledge of anatomy and procedures.

Job Description

The Surgical Technician will have the opportunity to assist surgeons during operative and invasive procedures, as well as assist in preparation of surgical services to ensure suite setup is appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Competency to create and maintain a sterile field, providing equipment and supplies, performing sponge, sharps and instruments counts. Providing visualization of operative site
• Independently pulls cases utilizing preference sheets and OR special equipment lists. Updates, reviews lists making changes as necessary. Reviews cases, and equipment prior to start of case. Is scrubbed in and has equipment prior to patient arriving into the OR suite
• Verifying efficacy of equipment, operating, maintaining and verifying and recording efficacy of equipment
• Determines and documents efficacy of equipment. Records reflect accurate description of operations, sterilization, and use of equipment
• Familiar with proper assembly, operation, and disassembly of all OR equipment and attends in-service on new equipment
• Attends in-service on new equipment, completes competency evaluation successful in operation and maintaining equipment used within the department
• In-depth knowledge of principles of sterile technique; General knowledge of anatomy, surgical procedures with emphasis on our specific procedures.

Required Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of Orthopedic Surgery
• Current Surgical Technologist certification required
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) recognized by American Heart Association required

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum six (6) months experience in an orthopedic surgical area preferred.

The pay range for this position is $32.55 - $48.83/hour.

Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
