Qualifications

• Asepsis and sterile technique knowledge.
• Surgical instrument handling experience.
• Ability to prep sterile fields per procedure.

Responsibilities

• Applies asepsis principles and performs surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving.
• Assembles supplies according to procedure requirements.
• Sets up sterile instrument table and assists in draping.
• Assists surgeon with instruments, sutures, and supplies.
• Maintains count of sponges, needles, and instruments with RN.
• Maintains aseptic technique and reports contamination.
• Labels and handles specimens per policy.
• Inspects instruments and equipment for sterility and function.
• Receives and labels solutions and medications on the sterile field.
• Participates in Universal Protocol and fire risk assessment.
• Communicates equipment malfunctions and maintains sharps safety.
• Maintains organized sterile back table and cleans instruments.
• Assists with OR cleanup; supports cost containment and safety.
• Pursues ongoing education and maintains ST certification.
• Collaborates with team to deliver safe, high-quality care.
