Responsibilities

• Prepares for surgical procedures by identifying, selecting and setting up instruments using aseptic technique.
• Inspects all equipment, instruments and packaging to ensure sterility and proper function.
• Utilizes and understands sterilization principles in processing instruments and equipment.
• Performs hand washing technique and prepares OR field according to standards.
• Anticipates surgeons' needs for instruments and sutures.
• Keeps operative field neat, clean and dry.
• Passes specimens to circulating nurse after verifying with surgeon.
• Reports prostheses, drains and catheters to circulating nurse.
