Job summary

UNM Hospitals is seeking a Surgical Technician to assist in the care and preparation of surgical patients as a member of the sterile team, donning gown and gloves, and maintaining a sterile field.

Responsibilities include setting up tables and instruments, assisting with patient draping, data entry, specimen preparation, decontamination, and coordinating with the RN for special procedure prep; heavy emphasis on safety and teamwork in a fast-paced operating room.

Qualifications

• High School or GED equivalent required.
• Surgical Tech program diploma and nationally recognized certification required.
• Two years of directly related surgical experience preferred.
• Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Tiowa, Zuni, or Navajo helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and draping of patient and operating area; prepare and maintain sterile field for surgical procedures.
• Set up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operations.
• Decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies.
• Assist with data and charting, including digital x-rays and lab slips.
• Prepare specimens for laboratory analysis and maintain proper documentation.
• Respond to surgical supply requests from the Operating Room with urgency and service orientation.
• Receive used case carts and deliver to decontamination room; maintain patient safety practices.
