Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program (CST or TS-C) or documented proof of prior surgical technologist employment before Sept 1, 2009.
• Must have current CST or TS-C certification or be an LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist in a health care facility before Sept 1, 2009. BLS Healthcare Provider course per RQI guidelines must be completed before working clinically.
• Must be able to read and comprehend perioperative information; basic keyboarding and Microsoft Windows literacy; able to communicate effectively and address needs of patients of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of surgical sites.
• Passes instruments on all procedures or acts as an assistant and holds retractors as needed.
• Practices aseptic technique.
• Assist in preparation of room prior to surgery and cleaning after.
• Ensures instruments, supplies, and equipment are available for surgeries.
• Has two years of OR scrub tech experience.
• Works in instrument room as needed.
• Takes assigned call as required.
• Demonstrates awareness of age-specific needs across diverse patient backgrounds.
• Participates in cost containment in the OR.
