Job summary

Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen, Texas, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking an Obstetric Surgical Technologist (PRN). You will prep the surgical suite, support obstetric procedures, and ensure compassionate patient care while working in a collaborative team focused on newborn safety and high standards of care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology.
  • Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans for and scrubs assigned surgical procedures in accordance with standards.
  • Participates in on-call rotation based on department needs.
  • Operates the sterilizer and other patient care equipment after proper training.
  • Promotes hospital processes and goals and communicates issues in the chain of command.
  • Takes initiative in updating surgeon preference cards, pulling case carts, stocking rooms, turning over the OR, and assisting with supply inventory.
  • Quality Improvement: Strives for high quality performance and takes initiative to improve results.
  • Personal Achievement: Sets and achieves personal goals to advance career-related skills.
  • Teamwork: Builds relationships across work groups and supports care delivery and morale.
  • Resource Management: Demonstrates accountability and sound judgment in using hospital resources.
  • Customer Service: Delivers high quality service to all customers per ICARE principles.
  • Completes other activities as assigned.

Job Summary and Qualifications

What you will do in this role:
  • Plans for and scrubs assigned surgical procedures in accordance with AORN, AST, quality, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Participates in on-call rotation based on the need of the department.
  • Operates the sterilizer and other patient care equipment according to manufacturer’s instructions after proper training.
  • Promotes hospital processes and goals, and communicates issues, whether actual or potential, to appropriate person in the chain of command.
  • Takes initiative in performing other duties, whether assigned or not, such as assisting with updating surgeon preference cards, pulling case carts, stocking rooms, turning‑over the OR, and assisting with scheduled supply inventory.
  • Quality Improvement: Strives for high quality performance and takes initiative to make improvements and deliver results.
  • Personal Achievement: Sets and achieves personal goals to advance career-related skills, knowledge and abilities and helps others to improve their skills.

What qualifications you will need:
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology for Surgical Technologist role is required.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology.
  • Current BCLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
  • 1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred
