Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
• 3-5 years of experience as a surgical technician.
• Prior lead or preceptor experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room and field with instruments, equipment and supplies.
• Assists the surgical team during procedures by anticipating needs and passing instruments.
• Applies sterile technique and infection control standards to ensure patient safety.
• Performs counts of sponge, needle and instruments with the circulating nurse.
• Retains and labels specimens for pathology and documentation.
• Transports instruments for decontamination and restocking between cases.
• Leads orientation, training and competency checks for technicians.
