Job summary

Community Health Systems is seeking a Surgical Technician Lead to support the surgical team by preparing operating rooms, organizing instruments, and assisting with procedures under the surgeon and RN supervision.

The role emphasizes aseptic technique, documentation, and mentoring of technicians. Requires an accredited Surgical Technology program and 3–5 years of experience, with lead/preceptor experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a surgical technician is required.
  • Prior experience in a lead or preceptor role is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares operating rooms and sets up the surgical field with instruments and supplies.
  • Assists during procedures by passing instruments promptly and anticipating needs.
  • Maintains aseptic technique and infection control throughout procedures.
  • Conducts sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse.
  • Retains and labels specimens for pathology and documents accordingly.
  • Performs instrument handling, cleaning, and transport to decontamination areas.
  • Supports room turnover and restocking of supplies between cases.
  • Maintains physician preference cards and participates in training of staff.
  • Contributes to scheduling, quality initiatives, and a collaborative work environment.
