Qualifications

• Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technologist program.
• Certification as CST by NBSTSA or NCCT.
• US military or Public Health Service ST training.
• Experience in a health care facility before September 1, 2009.

Responsibilities

• Discuss special needs with the surgeon before surgery and scrub in.
• Prepare operative site and clip patient as needed.
• Maintain instrument table and ensure accurate counts.
• Set up OR per procedure and arrange sterile supplies.
• Ensure proper functioning of instruments and equipment.
• Assist with draping, positioning, and passing supplies to team.
• Receive surgical specimens and handle post-case dressings.
• Disassemble and decontaminate instruments after the procedure.
