Job summary

North Carolina Specialty Hospital is seeking a Surgical Tech to assist in the operating room under supervision, preparing instruments, maintaining sterile fields, and supporting anesthesia teams.

Responsibilities include scrubbing, equipment setup, and ensuring patient safety across adult to geriatric patients. Strong communication and critical thinking are essential in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of surgery experience in at least two specialties preferred.
• BLS certification through an accredited program; CST preferred.
• Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
• Strong critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs scrub activities based on aseptic technique and infection control.
• Prepares and uses equipment, instrumentation and supplies for surgical procedures.
• Locates, operates and reports issues with equipment.
• Independently prepares sterile field for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Maintains and updates preference cards and uses automated systems.
• Ensures predictable attendance and adheres to hospital policies.
• Identifies patient risks and takes appropriate actions to minimize harm.
• Upholds confidentiality and professional conduct.
• Collaborates with departments to maintain patient safety.
