Job summary

Hospital For Veterinary Surgery in New York City is seeking a Surgical Team Coordinator to support an incoming fourth surgeon. This hybrid role combines on-floor clinical support with behind-the-scenes operations, acting as the backbone for the surgical team and coordinating a driven clinical staff.

You’ll manage appointments, patient care, and pre/post-op workflows, while ensuring documentation accuracy and smooth daily scheduling. A fast-paced, growth-oriented environment awaits.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as Veterinary Assistant, Technician, LVT or Lead Assistant.
  • Strong clinical foundation including appointments, patient handling, and basic procedures.
  • Experience supporting surgery or specialty medicine is a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Clear, confident communication with clients and team members.

Responsibilities

  • Run appointments including history taking, patient intake, and client communication.
  • Assist with exams, diagnostics, and treatments as needed.
  • Support pre-operative and post-operative workflows.
  • Step in for hands-on patient care, restraint, and basic procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and timely medical record documentation.
  • Act as central coordinator for one surgeon and their clinical team.
  • Own daily scheduling flow: appointments, procedures, rechecks, and follow-ups.
  • Ensure all cases are fully prepped (labs, imaging, history, estimates).
  • Track missing information before it becomes a problem.
  • Keep the team aligned, on time, and moving efficiently throughout the day.
  • Prepare the DVM for consultations with organized case summaries.
  • Anticipate needs before appointments and procedures.
  • Assist with client communication workflows and discharge planning.
  • Serve as go-to problem solver for disruptions to schedule.
  • Identify inefficiencies and help build better workflows.
  • Coordinate across departments (surgery, anesthesia, client care).
  • Help establish structure in a growing, fast-moving environment.
