Overview

IU Health North Hospital is a cutting‑edge, fast‑paced facility that provides exceptional care to both adult and pediatric populations. Our surgical unit is equipped with advanced technology, including a robust robotic program, and offers a diverse range of procedures in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment. We are a comprehensive hospital providing multiple specialties such as orthopedics, general surgery, colorectal, urology, gynecology and cancer care. The day‑shift Surgical Skilled Technologist will be responsible for providing service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures; assisting surgeons as allowed by professional and legal standards; ensuring surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation are prepared; and contributing to turnover of the operating room after each procedure. On‑call and holiday shifts are required.

Responsibilities

The role involves:

  • Assisting surgeons in the operating room within professional and legal limits.
  • Ensuring presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies, and instrumentation prior to each operation.
  • Assisting with turnover of the operating room after the procedure, ensuring proper routing or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
  • Working as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA within four months of employment.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Ability to operate advanced technology.
  • 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.
  • Knowledge of various surgical procedures within 12 months of employment to anticipate surgeon needs and recognize problems.
  • Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation names and functions.
  • Strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of a sterile field.
