Job summary

Indiana University Health in Bloomington is seeking a Surgical Resource Technologist to join a high-volume surgical team. You will support pre-, intra-, and post-operative activities, ensuring proper equipment, supplies, and instrumentation are in place for each procedure.

The role requires a NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist, BLS, and at least 1 year of related experience. A strong focus on sterile technique, teamwork, and continuous education is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist preferred/required.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • 17 continuing education units annually required.
  • Completion of Preceptor class or 4 eLMS modules or facility preceptor training.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a Skilled Technologist or relevant experience.
  • Ability to resource to other staff using advanced technology and knowledge of instruments.

Responsibilities

  • Surgical Resource Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Assist in ensuring presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment and instrumentation in the OR.
  • Assist the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by standards.
  • Turnover the operating room after procedures with proper routing and processing of specimens, equipment, and supplies.
  • Work as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, RNs, and other staff.

Functioning as a Level III trauma center, the RAHC plays a pivotal role in supporting South Central Indiana, emphasizing top-tier patient care and favorable outcomes. This is a full time day shift role. On-call coverage required, including two weekend shifts every six weeks spanning Friday end of shift through Monday at 7:00 AM, as well as two weekday overnight call shifts per week from end of shift through 7:00 AM.

Surgical Resource Technologists provide service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Assists in ensuring the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. Provides assistance to the surgeon in the operating room as allowed by professional and legal standards. Assists in the turnover of the operating room after the procedure ensuring proper routing and/or processing of all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies. Works as a member of the surgical team with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

  • Requires a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA.
  • Requires Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Requires 17 continuing education units annually.
  • Requires successful completion of Perioperative Services Preceptor class and/or completion of 4 precepting eLMS modules and/or facility based preceptor training.
  • Requires a minimum of 1 year experience in the Skilled Technologist role or relevant experience.
  • Must be able to resource to other staff who are utilizing advanced technology in cases, including knowledge of the types of instruments utilized, what cases utilize different technologies, etc.
  • Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
  • Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
  • Requires completion of application and recommendations as prescribed in Advancement Process.
