Job summary

Halifax Health is seeking a Registered Nurse in Surgical Services (Charge Nurse) to lead and coordinate nursing care. You will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while directing LPNs, CNAs, and support staff to deliver high-quality outcomes.

You will collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams, document care, educate patients and families, and ensure safety and timely discharge in a dynamic surgical unit.

Qualifications

• Degree from an accredited school of nursing; bachelor preferred.
• Completion of orientation and unit competency checks.
• Excellent interpersonal communication with patients, families and staff.
• Certifications as required by the unit and ongoing professional development.
• Follows legal and ethical guidelines and hospital policies.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care using the nursing process.
• Direct, delegate and coordinate care by LPNs, CNAs, and support staff.
• Coordinate patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize outcomes.
• Lead, teach and advocate for patients and families; ensure timely discharge.
• Document assessments and progress; initiate and verify physician orders.
