GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Surgical technologists, also called scrubs, surgical, or operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. They are members of operating room teams, which most commonly include surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program.
  • Must be certified to perform CPR with 0-2 years of clinical experience in a related field.
  • Experience with orthopedics, neuro, and pain management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare and maintain medical equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions.
  • Follow hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patients during pre-operation procedures.
  • Perform pre-operation preparations on the patient's skin, body, and medical equipment.
  • Assemble and check sterile and non-sterile equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites.
  • Transport patients to the operating room, help position them, and cover with sterile drapes.
  • Monitor vital signs, check charts, and assist with gowning and gloving.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons, assist with specimen handling, and help with dressings.
  • Operate sterilizers, lights, suction machines, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Assist in transferring patients post-operation and clean/restock the operating room.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
