Job summary

Memorial Hermann Surgical Hospital Kingwood is seeking a Scrub Technician to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and maintain a sterile field during procedures in the operating room.

Responsibilities include ensuring sterility of all supplies, assisting the circulating nurse, counting sponges, needles, and instruments, gowning surgeons, and keeping physician preference cards up to date while protecting patient privacy per policy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and completion of a Scrub Technician Program; certification preferable.
• Two years experience as a Scrub Tech in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Reasoning Ability: Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
• General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room.

Responsibilities

• Maintains sterile field during surgical procedures and ensures sterility of supplies and instruments.
• Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment.
• Counts sponges, needles, and instruments pre-operatively and intra-operatively with the circulating nurse.
• Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
• Maintains accurate physician preference cards and handles specimens for pathology with surgeon confirmation.
• Transports equipment for cleaning and reprocessing; assists in sterile supply with instrument sets.
• Interacts professionally with patients and staff; adheres to Universal Precautions and HIPAA requirements.
• Participates in safety drills and environmental health surveillance; complies with safety guidelines.
