Job summary

Memorial Hermann Surgery Center in Sugar Land is seeking a full-time Certified Surgical Tech to support the operating room team. The role emphasizes maintaining sterile technique and assisting surgeons and nurses during procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and completion of a Scrub Technician Program.
• Two years experience as Scrub Tech in multiple specialties or equivalent education/experience.
• General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures in an operating room.

Responsibilities

• Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures.
• Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment.
• Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
• Counts sponges, needles, and instruments pre-operatively and intra-operatively with the circulating nurse.
• Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
• Maintains physician preference cards accurate/updated.
• Retains specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon.
• Transports surgical equipment to cleaning areas and assists in sterile reprocessing of instrument sets.
• Interacts appropriately with patients/staff regardless of age or background.
• Follows Universal Precautions and safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment.
• Communicates with visitors, physicians, and staff while maintaining privacy.
