Job summary

Position Summary

Anticipates the needs of the surgical team and establishes and maintains the sterile field during surgical procedures in the operating room. Reports to the Clinical Director/Administrator.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during the setup of surgical procedures.
• Assists the circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining a sterile environment.
• Assists the circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts pre‑operatively and intra‑operatively with the circulating nurse.
• Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with the surgeon.
• Uses standard universal precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment.
• Follows all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment.

Qualifications

• One year experience as a Scrub Tech in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Able to resolve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures in an operating room.

Compensation

Salary range: $26.00 – $40.00 per hour. Wages are determined based on qualifications and experience.
