Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to serve as the primary scheduling resource for in-person surgical procedures. You will communicate with physicians, patients, the surgery center, and the prior authorization team to coordinate appointments and prep instructions.

Responsibilities include reviewing medications, submitting surgery clearance forms, and ensuring timely follow-up. You will use Cerner EMR and other tools to manage messages and scheduling activities.

Qualifications

• AHA Basic Life Support certification.
• Graduation from a Medical Assistant program is required.
• Current CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA/CMAC certification(s) required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary patient-facing resource for scheduling in-person surgical procedures.
• Communicate professionally with physicians, patients, the surgery center, and the prior authorization team.
• Review medications and provide procedure instructions using physician-approved guidance.
• Coordinate procedure scheduling and share appointment prep details with patients.
• Contact patients by phone regarding rescheduling, prior authorization updates, and scheduling needs.
• Submit surgery clearance forms and ensure timely follow-up on documentation.
• Monitor and manage physician procedure schedules to keep templates filled.
• Collaborate with providers and staff to maintain efficient patient flow and scheduling.
• Follow up on insurance authorization requirements and assist in approvals.
• Utilize Cerner and other tools to manage messages and track scheduling.
