Job summary

Houston Methodist is seeking a Part-time Surgical Pathology Technician to perform gross examination and description of gross-only specimens and small biopsies, under the direction of a Pathologist. The role includes assisting with fine needle aspirations, bone marrows, accessioning, and related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related laboratory science and two years of experience in a surgical pathology lab.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related laboratory science.
• Two years of experience in a surgical pathology laboratory.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and HIPAA compliance.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and hospital/Lab information systems.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross examination and description of gross-only specimens and small biopsies.
• Triage, document tissue specimens and ensure specimen integrity.
• Photographs specimens and, if directed, maintain the photography database.
• Organizes own workload and reports pertinent information to Pathologist.
