Job summary

Banner Health is seeking a Pathologist Assistant to support surgical specimen dissection, grossing, and intraoperative consultations in a dynamic clinical setting. The PA will mentor residents and students, perform high-quality gross analyses, and document findings with dictation and photography.

The position emphasizes accuracy, collaboration with attending pathologists, and adherence to CAP standards. Eligible candidates with NAACLS training and strong teaching aptitude are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a B.S. degree or higher and completion of a NAACLS-approved Pathologists' Assistant program.
• ASCP certification preferred or eligible within first year of employment.
• Three to five years of experience in a gross room; teaching experience valued.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the preparation, photography, dictation and grossing of surgical specimen dissections of all complexity levels from routine to multiple part cancer resections.
• Provides education and instruction for Pathology Residents, Fellows and medical students regarding proper gross examination and dissection of surgical pathology specimens, including gross photography techniques and dictation of complete descriptions.
• Assists with frozen section specimens and intra-operative consultations and provides guidance to Residents and Fellows.
• Assists in providing immediate consultation for renal biopsy adequacy in the clinical setting and prepares tissue for diagnosis by the Pathologist.
• Provides support for tissue selection and consultation on specimens for tumor banking or research projects as requested.
• Provides feedback to surgical pathology assistants and staff; ensures instrument maintenance and troubleshooting per CAP guidelines.
