Job summary

UMass Memorial Health seeks a Pathologist Assistant to perform gross surgical pathology, assist in training residents, and manage specimen workflows across campuses. The role involves dissection, tissue submission, and supporting QA activities in a busy academic health system.

Required: bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field and PA certification; master’s degree preferred. A signing bonus may be available for eligible candidates during the interview process.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field is required.
• Master’s degree as a Pathologist Assistant is preferred.
• Certification as a Pathologist Assistant from an AAPA-approved program is required.
• PA rotates campuses with weekly shifts.

Responsibilities

• Performs gross surgical pathology functions including dissection, examination and gross dictation of specimens.
• Selects and submits tissue sections for microscopic examination and maintains tumor bank specimens.
• Assists in training residents and fellows in surgical pathology tasks, including dictation and photography.
• Performs human post-mortem examinations and triages specimens for diagnostic and research purposes.
• Assists in Quality Assurance with data collection and reviews.
• Attends liver biopsies and delivers specimens to final destinations in designated labs.
• Oversees accessioning and logging in of surgical specimens and assists pathologists.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field of study

Master’s degree as a Pathologist Assistant

Certification as a Pathologist Assistant from an AAPA-approved program
