Job summary

Laboratory Sciences of Arizona is seeking a Surgical Pathology support technician to receive, triage and label tissue and cytology specimens, and assist with frozen sections, bone marrows and fine needle aspirations. The role includes clerical duties and maintaining equipment in the Surgical Pathology area.

The position requires high school diploma, at least 6 months of medical lab experience, and strong communication, typing and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 6 months medical lab experience in specimen handling preferred.
• Must have good communication, comprehension and typing skills.
• Strong understanding of pathology concepts and procedures.
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Receive, accession and label specimens and paperwork with proper identification.
• Perform computer and clerical tasks for surgical and cytology specimens.
• Assist pathologists with setup, including printing cassettes.
• Prepare containers and cassettes for shipment to processing sites.
• Assist with cryostat operations for frozen sections and stain specimens.
• Support autopsy procedures and ensure supplies are stocked.
• Provide clerical support including triaging calls and documenting issues.
• Maintain equipment, filing systems and tissue specimens.
