Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a Medical Assistant to support providers in patient care across multiple clinics in Houston. You will assist with examinations, procedures, diagnostics, and dressing changes under physician supervision.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, MA program completion or equivalent, and MA certification eligibility with BLS/CPR. Opportunities for growth and cross-training across services are available.

Qualifications

• Six months of medical assistant experience or completion of MA externship.
• Specialty clinic experience preferred.
• Urgent Care: phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Demonstrates clear communication and teamwork.
• Knowledge of ICD-9/10 and CPT coding and insurance procedures.
• Willing to float to other clinics and work evenings or weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Deliver patient care under physician supervision across multiple services.
• Review charts and ensure required lab work and reports are available.
• Record vital signs and prepare patients for examination; assist procedures.
• Operate and monitor medical equipment; perform testing (EKG, hearing, vision).
• Administer medications per policy and perform venipuncture and specimen collection.
• Monitor patients during procedures and respond to emergencies.
• Ensure safety and adherence to Memorial Hermann policies and budget guidelines.
• Mentor and support less experienced staff; promote compassionate care.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Graduation from Medical Assistant program

Certification eligibility within 12 months (AMT/AAMA/NHA/NAHP)

RMA/CMA/CCMA/NRCMA within 12 months

Current BLS/CPR certification
