Job summary

Memorial Hospital of Carbondale is seeking a Surgical Tech - First Assistant to support the surgeon during procedures. The role requires an ARC/STSA-accredited surgical technology program or NBSTSA Surgical First Assist training, plus a CSFA certification within one year and IL state registration.

One year of experience with at least 120 logged cases is preferred. The position involves preparing rooms, assisting with draping, exposure, suction, and wound closure, and ensuring safety and accuracy

Qualifications

• Requires ARC/STSA-accredited surgical tech program or NBSTSA Surgical First Assist training.
• CSFA certification within one year of employment.
• Registered by the State of Illinois.

Responsibilities

• Prepare rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment for procedures.
• Open sterile supplies and set up for procedures.
• Provide wound exposure and maintain a dry field for the surgeon.
• Assist in hemostasis, closure, and intraoperative duties under supervision.
• Transport patients to the operating room and document instrument counts.
• Decontaminate instruments and coordinate with team for safety and efficiency.
