Job summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a Surgical First Assistant for Saint Joseph Mount Sterling in Kentucky. The role supports the surgical team during operative procedures, focusing on exposure, hemostasis, and wound closure under the surgeon’s direction.

You will collaborate with the operating team and report to your Team Leader, performing duties that ensure a safe surgical experience and patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
• 1–3 years of surgical technician experience.
• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification within 14 days.
• Certified Surgical First Assistant NASC or equivalent on hire.
• Certified First Assistant – CST preferable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient positioning, sterile draping, and antiseptic prep.
• Open/close surgical sites, harvest grafts, assist with hemostasis and wound closure.
• Assist in securing drainage and applying wound dressings.
• Place Foley catheters, splints/casts, and administer local anesthesia under supervision.
