Job summary

EVP EyeCare in Arlington, TX is seeking a Surgical Counselor to educate patients about cataract and LASIK procedures and guide them through the surgical day, including scheduling and gathering required documentation. Responsibilities include presenting lens options, coordinating pre-certification with insurance, discussing financing and self-pay options, and communicating with referring Optometrists.

A medical-office background and customer-service/sales experience are preferred; bilingual

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least two years in a medical office setting.
• Prior Surgical Counseling experience preferred.
• Previous sales background required.
• Knowledge of insurance carrier policies and procedures.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to multi-task and work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Counsel and educate the patient about upcoming surgery and lens options.
• Set surgery dates and post-operative appointments.
• Send paperwork to authorization for eligibility, benefits and authorization.
• Confirm pre-certification from insurance carriers received prior to procedure.
• Discuss implant options and self-pay fees including financing options.
• Collect fees for specialty lenses and co-insurance or co-pays.
• Issue refunds for cancelled surgeries.
• Create H&Ps and obtain clearance as necessary.
• Answer patient calls and coordinate with referring Optometrists.
• QA surgery charts and maintain patient records.
