Position Summary
UBMD Ophthalmology / Ross Eye Institute is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Ophthalmic Surgical Scheduler to join our team. This role plays a critical part in coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures, ensuring patients have a smooth and efficient experience from consultation through post-operative care.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate a strong understanding of ophthalmology or surgical scheduling.
Key Responsibilities
Surgical Scheduling & Patient Coordination
- Coordinate and schedule all ophthalmic surgeries for your designated provider
- Communicate with patients regarding surgical dates, pre-operative and post-operative instructions, and insurance authorization requirements
- Provide exceptional customer service and address patient questions and concerns regarding procedures
Insurance Verification & Documentation
- Verify insurance eligibility and obtain required authorizations prior to surgery
- Submit necessary paperwork and ensure all surgical documentation is completed accurately and efficiently
- Maintain up-to-date records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
Collaboration & Operational Support
- Collaborate with surgeons, technicians, and clinic staff to ensure accurate and timely scheduling
- Work closely with surgical facilities and vendors to coordinate necessary equipment or materials
- Follow HIPAA guidelines and clinic protocols at all times
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum 1 year of experience in medical scheduling, ophthalmology, or surgical coordination
- Strong knowledge of clinical/medical practice operations, terminology, and administrative procedures
- Ability to multitask and remain flexible in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with computers, software applications, and practice management technology
- Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
