Job summary

You will collaborate with surgeons and staff, stay current with coding guidelines and HIPAA rules, and participate in audits and process improvements to enhance revenue cycle management.

Qualifications

• Current CPC credential from AAPC or equivalent certification.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in medical coding, preferably within a surgical or procedural setting.
• Comprehensive knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Familiarity with medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures.
• Strong understanding of healthcare compliance, HIPAA regulations, and payer billing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze surgical documentation to assign accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes.
• Ensure coding compliance with CMS guidelines, payer-specific rules, and industry standards.
• Collaborate with surgeons and clinical staff to clarify documentation and improve coding accuracy.
• Audit coded records regularly to identify and correct errors or inconsistencies.
• Assist in preparing for internal and external audits related to coding and billing practices.
• Maintain current knowledge of coding updates, regulatory changes, and best practices through continuous education.
• Support the billing department by providing coding expertise to reduce claim denials and improve reimbursement.
• Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance coding workflows and documentation quality.
